National Assisted Living Week

National Assisted Living Week: September 8-14, 2013

The theme for this year’s National Assisted Living Week® (NALW) is “Homemade Happiness”.  National Assisted Living Week will be held September 8 thru 14, 2013. It provides a unique opportunity for residents, families, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding community to come together to show residents how much they care about them.  The event, established in 1995 by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL), recognizes the role and services provided daily by more than 31,000 assisted living communities across the nation to 750,000 residents who need some assistance with daily living.

The 2013 theme, Homemade Happiness, encompasses the connection that occurs in communities between the staff, residents, and families as they build warm, welcoming, and vibrant homes. Celebrating the passionate commitment of staff and friendships that form between residents, Homemade Happiness will be a time to recognize the efforts, small and large, of every individual in a community that turn a residence into home for countless assisted living residents.

NCAL invites all who work in the elder care profession to join them in celebration by holding festive events that highlight the groundbreaking role the profession plays in caring for America’s seniors. The NCAL website provides a planning guide and product catalog centered on Homemade Happiness. The guide contains ideas that tie into the theme which help providers create their celebration events. You can also download the NALW logo at their site.

Alternatives for Seniors applauds NCAL for their efforts in producing this wonderful week of events. We’re pleased to join them in their recognition of assisted living residences and residents as well as their salute to “Homemade Happiness”.
