If you're considering relocating to an assisted living facility, there's no need to fear boredom. Many retirement communities and assisted living homes offer educational activities to keep you happy and engaged. After all, "if you don't use it, you lose it," so it's clearly important to continue keeping your mind as active as your body. Educational activities are designed for many interests and ability levels. Here are just a few you can expect to find.

  • Wine Education: If you have always wished to be more of a wine connoisseur, it's not too late! Wine education teaches you what makes wine great, and you get to taste a few samples while you're at it.
  • Quilting/Knitting Classes: A quilt, jacket, hat, or other gift can become a precious keepsake for your grandchildren. If you never learned to quilt or knit, or you simply want to hone your skills, these classes are a great option.
  • Golf Lessons: Whether you need lessons or you simply want to get out on the course and play, many assisted living homes have the facilities you need to get your golf game on.
  • Cooking Classes: If you've always loved to cook, it's not too late to add more recipes to your repertoire. Plus, cooking classes are useful if this is a skill you never quite mastered.
  • Computer Skills Workshops: As technology advances at an astounding pace, you may feel left behind. A computer skills workshop is the perfect way to learn the basic computer skills you need to keep in touch with loved ones.
  • Sailing Lessons: It's something you dreamed about doing once you retired, and now you have the chance! Sailing lessons get you out on the water with the fresh salty wind blowing through your hair.
  • Dance Lessons: Dancing is a fun way to exercise. Various styles may be offered at the assisted living home you're considering, some of which require a partner.
  • Language Courses: It's never too late to learn a new language. Take a course with your fellow retirees to work out your brain and learn a useful new skill.
  • Writing Workshops: If you love to write, don't discontinue your passion. Instead, attend workshops to help you better your writing skills and give you the chance to share your work.
