Let’s Celebrate Our Geriatric Care Managers!

While seniors and their families may spend a good amount of time researching or receiving care from senior care professionals; many may not know exactly who the people are that provide the care or what kind of care options are available. To provide recognition and awareness of Geriatric Care Managers (GCM), we celebrate National Geriatric Care Manager Month in May.

A professional GCM is a health and human services specialist who helps families caring for older relatives. Geriatric Care Managers are professionals who have extensive training and experience working with older people, people with disabilities and families who need assistance with caregiving issues. They assist older adults who wish to remain in their homes, or can help families in the search for a suitable nursing home placement or extended care if the need occurs.

This year, the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (NAPGCM) is promoting their third annual national campaign to promote geriatric care management during the month of May. NAPGCM is a non-profit professional development organization whose mission is to advance professional geriatric care management through education, collaboration, and leadership. NAPGCM members throughout the country will celebrate National Geriatric Care Managers Month by providing seminars, webinars, special events related to geriatric care management, open houses, and other educational activities for the public.
